Configuring the OfficeConnect Remote 5x0/5x1 or AccessBuilder 500/600/7000
for Two Channel or Nailed Up Use
This document describes configuring these units for using two channel
based on demand or nailed up Configuring the OfficeConnect Remote 5x0 or
AccessBuilder 500/600/700/7000 for Two Channel or Nailed Up Use operation.
***By default, only one B channel is used unless demand mode is enabled
on both ISDN ports.***
Using Two B channels in dial on demand mode
Demand mode must be enabled on both ISDN1 and ISDN2 ports. In addition,
your ISDN Numbers entry(ies) will
need to be modified.
1) Enter CO PO to access the port configuration menu. Highlight the
first ISDN1 port and enter ED PO
to edit the Port related parameters. Toggle the Demand option to ENABLED.
^E and SAVE will store the changes.
Repeat the same process for ISDN2.
Port Number :ISDN1 Demand : ENABLED
Port Name :AUTO FAST/PPP 1 Demand Threshold : >20
Compression :STAC Demand Period : 60
Scramble :DISABLED Demand Priority : 0
Line Speed :64000 Idle Threshold : >2
Dial Timeout :30 Idle Period : 60
The second channel will now be brought up when the Demand Threshold and
Demand Period criteria are met. By default, the first
channel would need to reach 20% utilization for 60 seconds, at which
time the second channel will connect.
You can modify these values as you see fit. If the Demand Threshold
parameter is lowered, the second channel
will be brought up based on a lower utilization level on the first
channel. Decreasing the Demand Period will
decrease the time period that the Demand Threshold must be met or exceeded
before bringing up the second channel.
The Demand Threshold and the Demand Period can also be set to '0' if
you want the second channel brought up immediately
once there is traffic on the first channel. Once the second channel
has been brought up, the Idle Threshold and Idle Period
criteria must be met before the second channel drops. By default, if
utilization on the second channel falls below 2% for
60 seconds, then the second channel drops.
2) The ISDN Number entry will also need to be modified in order to make
2 calls in conjunction with enabling demand mode.
Enter CO IS NU to reach the ISDN Numbers menu. Set Max Circuits to '2'.
A second ISDN number may be needed if the remote site requires a different
number to connect to the second B channel
(typical of National ISDN-1).
In regions where ISDN lines are tariffed at a flat rate, it may be preferable
to nail up both B channels.
Nailed Up Configuration
The following configuration steps will establish a permanent two channel
connection.
1) Enter CO IS AUTO to access the autocall table.
Next, select 'IP' or 'IPX' depending on the type of autocall you have
set up.
ED will allow you to edit the selected Auto Call Entry. Set the Idle
(secs) setting to '0'.
^E and SAVE to submit and store changes.
2) The ISDN Number entry will also need to be modified in order to make
2 calls in conjunction with enabling demand mode.
Enter CO IS NU to reach the ISDN Numbers menu. Set Max Circuits to
'2'.
A second ISDN number may be needed if the remote site requires a different
number to connect to the second B channel
(typical of National ISDN-1).
3) Next, proceed to the ISDN Parameters menu by entering CO IS PA.
Set Maximum Call Duration to '0'
or '999'. A setting of '0' will prevent a call from being dropped because
the maximum call duration has been reached;
'999' is the maximum of 16 hours.
4) The last changes to make are in the Port Configuration menu.
Enter CO PO. Set Demand Threshold/Period and Idle Threshold/Period
to '>0'. This will have the effect of 'nailing up'
both channels (ie both channels will stay up indefinitely).
Repeat for this for ISDN2 also:
