Setting Up Chameleon NFS 4.6 for use with the 3ComImpact IQ External ISDN Modem

These instructions describe how to configure Chameleon NFS 4.6 for use with the 3ComImpact IQ External ISDN modem. The Chameleon NFS 4.6 software should already be installed.
- Double-click on the Custom icon shown in Figure 1 in your Chameleon program group.

The Custom dialog box appears.
- From the Interface menu, select Add. The Add dialog box appears.
- Type the name of your Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the Name field. Select PPP from the Type field. Click OK.
- From the Setup menu, select Configuration. Figure 2 appears.

- If your IP address is static (that is, not dynamic), select the red dot in the IP Address field. Enter your IP address.
- Enter the number of mask bits in the Mask Bits field. (For example, if 8 is entered, the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 is displayed).
- Click the Name Resolution tab. Figure 3 appears.

- Enter the Host Name if your ISP specified one. If not, leave this field blank.
- Enter the DNS Domain Name if you already have a registered domain name you specified for use with this account. If you do not have a registered domain name, leave this field blank.
- Enter the IP address for your name server in the Domain Servers field.
- Click Add. Enter the IP address for a backup name server.
- Click Add. (If required, your ISP will provide you with the correct Domain Server IP address.)
- Select the Port tab. Figure 4 appears.

- Choose the following settings:

- Click the Dial tab. Figure 5 appears.

- Enter the ISDN telephone number of your ISP. If required, include the area code and any additional digits needed to get an outside line such as 9.
NOTES: Some ISPs require you to dial two telephone numbers to place a Multilink PPP call. Use the ampersand (&) character to dial two telephone numbers. For example, 908 555 1212 & 908 555 1213. You must have Chameleon NFS version 4.6.3 or later to use the ampersand (&) character.
If you experience timeouts, increase the value in the Timeout If Not Connected field.
- Click the Modem tab. Figure 6 appears.

- Choose the 3ComImpact Digital Modem (ISDN), then click Select.
- Edit the Modem Init string by adding S80=0 for PPP (single B-Channel connection) or S80=1 for Multilink -PPP (dual B-Channel connection), and &B0.
NOTE:
For versions of Chameleon NFS previous to 4.6 choose the Hayes modem default and edit the modem init string as described above.
- Select Login. Figure 7 appears.

- Type your login account name in the User Name field. Type your PPP login account password in the User Password field. Note that both of these entries are case sensitive. Leave the Startup Command field blank. Click OK.
- Type -n in Script field. (To allow the login script to be ignored.) Click Save.
NOTE:
In versions of Chameleon NFS previous to 4.6, in the SLIP.INI file in the NetManage directory, edit all entries specified for use with the 3ComImpact IQ External ISDN Modem to show Script=-n.
- Click OK.
- From the File menu, select Save. Close the Custom Application and then close Chameleon.
- Exit Windows, and then restart Windows for the new configuration to take effect.
How to Open Up Your PPP Connection
- Double-click on the Custom icon in your Chameleon group folder. Make sure the interface you just defined is highlighted.
- Select the Connect menu.
