Scaleable Router Clustering Made simple
With the release of version 05.03x for the AccessBuilder® 7000 (AB7000) primary rate
bridge /router card will be the first official release of
Scaleable Router Clustering (SRC).
The Facts
1. With Scaleable Router Clustering it should be possible
for a single cluster to service up to 750 remote site. (This approximate
figure is based on unnumbered routing to remote sites)
2. Version 05.03x Scaleable Router Clustering supports
IP routing ONLY.( SRC for IPX routing to follow)
3. The cluster should be no more than four cards per LAN segment
due to the stress on a LAN segment if all 32 channels are up and
passing data simultaneously.
4. Clusters can be split across two racks for resilience.
5. You can have more than one cluster in a rack.
6. Any changes in the IP routing table to learned dynamic routes
will be exchanged between all cards within a cluster. Routes are
broadcast onto the LAN from the SRC master only.
Building A three card Cluster
Step 1: Configure IP routing.
On the first Bridge / Router card Type the following: CO SY <cr> In the name field enter the cluster name. i.e. SRC1
[Ctrl] E CO PO <cr> ED <cr> In the IP address field enter the cluster address. In the IP Mask field enter the cluster mask. [Ctrl] E
SAVE <cr> Follow IP routing procedures to configure all remote sites on to the AB7000 Bridge / Router Card
Using unnumbered routing will allow more remote sites to be configured.
Step 2: Enable SRC
On the first Bridge / Router card type the following: CO SY <cr> In this screen enter unique unit IP address and enable SRC. [Ctrl] E
SAVE <cr>
After approximately 30 seconds the front panel GOM MASTER LED
should be high as this is the only card in the cluster.
Step 3: Add card to cluster
On the second Bridge / Router card Type the following: CO SY <cr> In the name field enter the cluster name. i.e. SRC1
[Ctrl] E CO PO <cr> ED <cr> In the IP address field enter the cluster address. In the IP Mask field enter the cluster mask. [Ctrl] E
SAVE <cr> CO RO PA <cr> Enable IP routing. If you are using static routes only, disable RIP learn.
[Ctrl] E CO SY <cr> In this screen enter unique unit IP address and enable SRC. [Ctrl] E
SAVE <cr>
At this point the two rack cards will negotiate which is to be
Master. The unit with the lowest value MAC address will become
the Master. This can be observed on the front panel with the
GOM MASTER and GOM SLAVE LEDs. On completion of negotiation you
can then Donate the database from the first card to the second
card.
These step can be repeated in order to add another card to the
cluster
If further sites are added at a later date the new configuration
must be again donated to the other cards in the cluster
NOTE The "Max. Circuits" Field of the CO IS NU screen on the Remote unit MUST be set to 1 when using SRC. |
